The fluidity of the movement helps to both strengthen and soften us and brings flexibility and creative expression. We awaken to the forming power of language and music and bring these to life through gesture. Hence Eurythmy is a movement art that expresses music and the spoken word in space. The art of Eurythmy was created by Rudolf Steiner (1861 - 1925), philosopher, educator, playwright, social thinker and founder of Anthroposophy.
Rudolf Steiner and Anthroposophy
Rudolf Joseph Lorenz Steiner (27 (or 25) February 1861 – 30 March 1925) was an Austrian philosopher, social reformer, architect, clairvoyant, economist and esotericist. Steiner gained initial recognition at the end of the nineteenth century as a literary critic and published philosophical works including The Philosophy of Freedom. At the beginning of the twentieth century he founded an esoteric spiritual movement, anthroposophy, with roots in German idealist philosophy and theosophy; other influences include Goethean science and Rosicrucianism.
Anthroposophy, a spiritual science founded by Rudolf Steiner, researches the intimate connections between spirit and matter. This research has led to a renewal in the fields of visual and performing arts including Eurythmy, education (Steiner Waldorf), agriculture (bio-dynamic farming), medicine and cosmetics (Dr.Hauschka, Weleda, Wala).
